J. ROBERTO DURAN, III M.D., CMD

Dr. Duran is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care with special expertise in healthy aging. Dr. Duran completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso and fellowships in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Before coming to Las Cruces, Dr. Duran was part of the medical staff at The Methodist Hospital and a postdoctoral fellow in Echocardiography at the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center also in Houston, TX.
Dr. Duran was nominated for Chair of the Fellow In-training Committee of the American Geriatric Society during fellowship. He is active member of numerous medical societies, including the American Geriatric Society, the American Medical Director Association and the Society of Echocardiography. He is also a fellow of the Geriatric Cardiology Society. He is a recognized author and speaker with several peer-reviewed scientific publications and regional and national oral and poster presentations.
Dr. Duran has been the recipient of numerous awards including: The Young Investigator Award by the Geriatric Cardiology Society (2006) and was designated Texas Primary Care Resident in two consecutive years (2004,2005) by the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board Primary Care Residency Advisory Committee during his residency. In July of 2008, Dr. Duran was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Duran is also a clinical associate professor at the University of New Mexico and the Burrell College of Medicine in the department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
Dr. Duran is medical director for Hospice, home health and previous nursing homes here in Las Cruces, NM. Most importantly, he is a husband and the father of two delightful daughters and a son.
